A VPS with 8 GB of RAM is a sweet spot: enough to run several WordPress sites, a database and a few containers, or a small game server, without paying for a large cloud instance. Prices for 8 GB plans vary more than you might expect, so we compared the best-value ones in our catalog.
What to compare besides price
- vCPU count. Most 8 GB plans come with 2 to 4 virtual CPUs.
- Storage type. NVMe is noticeably faster than SATA SSD for databases.
- Billing. Some plans are cheapest only on a 12 or 24-month commitment; others bill monthly or hourly.
- Locations. Pick a data centre near your users.
- Managed or not. These are unmanaged plans: you look after the operating system and security yourself.
Lowest price: Contabo Cloud VPS 4
Contabo offers 4 vCPUs and 8 GB of RAM for one of the lowest prices on the market, with a choice of NVMe or larger SSD storage and data centres in Europe, the US and Asia. The lowest price needs a 24-month term.
Flat price, many European locations: OVHcloud VPS-2
OVHcloud's VPS-2 has 4 vCPUs, 8 GB of RAM and 75 GB NVMe, with data centres in France, Germany, the UK, Poland, Italy and beyond. It does not renew at a higher price.
No commitment: Hetzner Cloud CX33
Hetzner bills its cloud servers by the hour with a monthly cap, so you can create and delete servers whenever you like. The CX33 has 4 vCPUs, 8 GB of RAM and 80 GB NVMe in Germany or Finland. It is a favourite for developers who want flexibility.
More storage: netcup VPS 1000 G12.5
netcup gives 4 vCPUs, 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage at a flat price, with locations in Germany, Austria, the Netherlands and the US.
Easiest to start with: Hostinger KVM 2
Hostinger's KVM 2 has fewer vCPUs (2) but a polished control panel, one-click templates and data centres in 11 countries, which makes it a good first VPS. Note that it renews at a higher price than the intro offer.
Our picks
- Cheapest overall: Contabo, if you are happy to commit for 24 months.
- Best flexibility: Hetzner, billed by the hour.
- Europe-wide choice of locations at a flat price: OVHcloud.
- First VPS, easiest setup: Hostinger.
