How we collect prices and score plans
Where prices come from
For each provider we use, in order of preference: the official pricing API, the affiliate network's product feed, our own crawler that reads public pricing pages, or manual entry by our team. Every plan shows when its price was last checked.
Prices are synced automatically once a day. Changes under 30% are published right away; larger changes are held for a human to review. If a sync fails, the last known price stays visible with its original sync time.
Calculated values
- First-year cost: what you pay in the first 12 months, including any setup fee.
- Three-year cost: total over 36 months, including the setup fee and the renewal price after the intro term.
- Effective monthly: three-year cost divided by 36.
- Headline price: average monthly cost over the billing term you choose.
Value score (0 to 100)
Plans are scored only against plans of the same hosting type:
- 40%: price efficiency (resources per unit of effective monthly cost)
- 20%: renewal fairness (a small renewal jump scores higher)
- 15%: resources compared with similar plans
- 10%: reliability (uptime guarantee, refund window)
- 10%: support options
- 5%: free extras (SSL, backups, migration, domain)
Affiliate relationships never affect scores, prices or the order of results.
Currencies
Prices are stored in the currency the provider charges and converted with daily exchange rates. Converted prices are marked with ≈. You are always billed in the provider's currency.
Some providers run regional sites that sell the same plans at their own prices in a local currency (Hostinger's Indian site charges in rupees, for example, and usually less than the converted dollar price). When a provider sells a plan in your currency, we show that price instead of a conversion, without ≈, and the buy button opens that regional site. These prices come from the provider's own price data and are checked daily, like every other price. Where one currency has different prices in different countries (Hostinger's euro prices vary across the eurozone), we keep showing the converted price.
