The cheapest VPS you can host in Germany is netcup's VPS pico G11.5s at $2.07 a month (€1.85), but only on a 12-month contract. With no commitment at all, the cheapest is UpCloud's Starter 1 GB in Frankfurt at $3.36 a month, billed by the hour. For the most RAM per dollar, Contabo's Cloud VPS 4 gives you 8 GB for $6.17 a month.
We checked these prices on 6 October 2026. Many providers here bill in euros; we converted them to US dollars at the day's rate (about $1.12 per euro), so their dollar price moves a little with the exchange rate.
How we picked these plans
We count cloud servers as VPS here: a 1 GB cloud instance and a 1 GB "VPS" do the same job. But many hosts sell to German customers without hosting the server in Germany, so we only kept plans where the provider's own site confirms a German data center for that exact product: netcup's VPS pages (Nuremberg), UpCloud's price calculator (Frankfurt, de-fra1), DigitalOcean's regional availability page (FRA1), Vultr's public plans API (Frankfurt), Linode's regions API (Frankfurt), Lightsail's region list (eu-central-1, Frankfurt), Hetzner's cloud location list (Falkenstein and Nuremberg), IONOS's VPS+ page and Cloud documentation (Frankfurt and Berlin), OVHcloud's VPS order catalog, Contabo's order page, Scaleway's Dedibox VPS location list and Bluehost's announcement of its Frankfurt VPS location.
The 10 cheapest VPS plans in Germany
| # | Plan | vCPU | RAM | Storage | Price per month | Term and billing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | netcup VPS pico G11.5s | 1 | 1 GB | 30 GB SSD | $2.07 (€1.85) | 12-month contract |
| 2 | UpCloud Starter 1 GB | 1 | 1 GB | 10 GB SSD | $3.36 (€3.00) | Hourly |
| 3 | netcup VPS nano G11.5s | 2 | 2 GB | 60 GB SSD | $3.47 (€3.10) | 6-month contract |
| 4 | DigitalOcean Basic 512 MB | 1 | 512 MB | 10 GB SSD | $4.00 | Hourly |
| 5 | Bluehost VPS NVMe 2 | 1 | 2 GB | 50 GB NVMe | $4.99 | Monthly, renews at $5.99 |
| 6 | IONOS VPS S+ (Linux) | 1 | 2 GB | 60 GB NVMe | $5.00 | 12-month term, renews at $6.00 |
| 7 | Vultr Regular Performance 1 GB | 1 | 1 GB | 25 GB SSD | $5.00 | Hourly |
| 8 | Linode Shared CPU Nanode 1 GB | 1 | 1 GB | 25 GB SSD | $5.00 | Hourly |
| 9 | AWS Lightsail Linux 512 MB | 2 | 512 MB | 20 GB SSD | $5.00 | Hourly |
| 10 | OVHcloud VPS-1 | 2 | 4 GB | 40 GB NVMe | $5.03 (€4.49) | Monthly |
"Hourly" means you pay only for the hours the server exists, up to the monthly price shown. All of these are unmanaged: you get root access and look after the operating system yourself. netcup's euro prices are before VAT; EU buyers pay their local VAT on top.
The 512 MB plans from DigitalOcean and Lightsail are tiny. Half a gigabyte is fine for a VPN endpoint or a small proxy, but a WordPress site or a database will struggle.
Most RAM for the money
Just past the top 10, a few plans give you far more memory for a dollar or two more:
| Plan | vCPU | RAM | Storage | Price per month | Billing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| IONOS Cloud Basic Cube XS | 1 | 2 GB | 60 GB NVMe | $5.76 | Hourly |
| Contabo Cloud VPS 4 SSD | 4 | 8 GB | 100 GB SSD | $6.17 (€5.50) | Monthly |
| Hetzner Cloud CX23 | 2 | 4 GB | 40 GB NVMe | $6.71 (€5.99) | Hourly |
| Hetzner Cloud CAX11 (ARM) | 2 | 4 GB | 40 GB NVMe | $7.27 (€6.49) | Hourly |
Contabo's Cloud VPS 4 is the standout: 8 GB of RAM for €5.50 a month, with no location fee in Germany, unlike Contabo's locations in Asia, the US or the UK. Prepay 24 months and it drops to €4.40 a month (about $4.93) for that term.
Hetzner's CX23 runs in Hetzner's own data centers in Falkenstein and Nuremberg (or Helsinki, if you choose it), with 20 TB of traffic included and hourly billing. CAX11 is the ARM version, so check that your software runs on ARM first.
Cheapest overall: netcup VPS pico and nano
netcup's VPS pico G11.5s gives you 1 vCPU, 1 GB of RAM and 30 GB of SSD for €1.85 a month, but you commit to 12 months. The VPS nano G11.5s doubles the CPU, RAM and disk for €3.10 a month on a 6-month contract. netcup hosts both only in its Nuremberg data center. For a VPN, a reverse proxy or a monitoring node they are hard to beat.
Cheapest with no commitment: UpCloud Starter 1 GB
UpCloud's Starter plan has 1 vCPU, 1 GB of RAM and 10 GB of SSD for €3.00 a month in Frankfurt, billed hourly, so you can delete it any time. The disk is small; for more storage, Vultr's and Linode's $5.00 plans include 25 GB.
Also worth a look
- OVHcloud VPS-1: $5.03 a month (€4.49) for 2 vCPUs and 4 GB, at the same price on renewal; €3.81 a month (about $4.27) on a 12-month term.
- IONOS VPS S+: $5.00 a month on a 12-month term, renewing at $6.00. IONOS lists Germany as one of four VPS+ data center locations.
- netcup VPS 500 G12.5: 4 GB for €7.98 a month, or €5.90 (about $6.61) on a 24-month contract.
Plans we left out
netcup's VPS Lite G12.5s plans are cheap (VPS Lite 1 is €4.92 a month on a 6-month contract), but netcup places them in Nuremberg, Vienna or Amsterdam depending on availability, and you can't choose, so Germany isn't guaranteed. We couldn't confirm Scaleway's PRO and STORE VPS ranges in Germany.
How to choose
- Decide whether you can prepay. The two netcup plans need a 6- or 12-month contract. If you want to cancel any time, look at the hourly plans.
- Pick the RAM first. For 4 GB or more, OVHcloud VPS-1, Hetzner CX23 and Contabo Cloud VPS 4 beat any 1 GB plan from the big clouds on price per gigabyte.
- Check the city if latency matters. "Germany" means Nuremberg for netcup, Falkenstein or Nuremberg for Hetzner, and Frankfurt for most of the others.
The bottom line
If you can commit for a year, netcup's VPS pico at $2.07 a month is the cheapest VPS hosted in Germany. With no commitment, UpCloud's Starter 1 GB at $3.36 billed hourly is the cheapest. For real resources, Contabo's Cloud VPS 4 gives you 8 GB for $6.17 a month, and Hetzner's CX23 gives you 4 GB for $6.71 with hourly billing.
