The cheapest VPS with 4 GB of RAM is OVHcloud's VPS-1: 2 vCPUs, 4 GB and 40 GB of NVMe for $5.05 a month (€4.49), month to month, or $4.29 (€3.81) a month on a 12-month term. Neither price rises on renewal. The runner-up is netcup's VPS Lite 1 at $5.54 (€4.92) a month, with twice the disk but a fixed 6-month contract.
We checked these prices on 7 October 2026. Prices are monthly, at the shortest term each provider sells unless we say otherwise, and euro prices are converted at that day's rate (about $1.13 per euro). We included plans with exactly 4 GB of RAM and left out Windows plans and managed hosting.
How we picked
We count VPS and cloud servers together and include only Linux plans with root access, so every plan here is unmanaged: you install and update the software yourself. That leaves 55 plans with exactly 4 GB from 16 providers. We sorted them by the price you pay without prepaying, then looked at what happens if you do prepay and when the renewal arrives.

Then there's a big step. DigitalOcean, Vultr, Linode and Lightsail all charge $24.00 a month for their basic 4 GB servers, nearly five times OVHcloud's price for the same RAM.
Best overall: OVHcloud VPS-1
OVHcloud's VPS-1 is the cheapest 4 GB plan both month to month and on a commitment. At €3.81 a month on a 12-month term, it costs about $103 for two years, and the price after the first year stays the same. It is sold in nine countries in our data, from France and the UK to Canada, Singapore and India.
The cheapest hourly 4 GB server: Hetzner CX23
If you want to pay by the hour, Hetzner's CX23 is the cheapest 4 GB option at €5.99 a month ($6.74), capped monthly, with 2 vCPUs, 40 GB of NVMe and 20 TB of traffic. It runs in Germany and Finland only. The ARM version, CAX11, is €6.49; ARM is fine for most Linux software, but check that your Docker images have ARM builds.
One caution: when we last checked Hetzner's site, it showed its CX and CAX range as "currently not available" to order, so it may not be there when you are.
After Hetzner, the next-cheapest hourly 4 GB servers are IONOS's Cloud Cube S at $10.08, billed by the minute, and UpCloud's Starter 4 GB at $11.25 (€10.00) with 1 CPU. The big four at $24 give you more transfer (3 to 5 TB) and many more regions, but you pay for it.
Cheapest in the US: InterServer 2 slices
InterServer's 2-slice VPS is $6.00 a month with 4 GB, 80 GB of SSD and 4 TB of transfer, billed monthly with no contract and no renewal increase. It has only 1 core, half what most plans here offer, so it suits memory-hungry work better than CPU-heavy work. It's sold in the US only; our US VPS guide covers the other options there.
Prepaying: the intro prices and what follows
Five of these plans get cheaper if you commit to a longer term. Here is what two years costs on each provider's cheapest term:
| Plan | Term | Price per month | Renews at | 2-year cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| OVHcloud VPS-1 | 12 months | $4.29 (€3.81) | Same | $102.89 |
| Contabo Storage VPS 10 | 24 months | $4.95 (€4.40) | €5.50 | $118.82 |
| DreamHost VPS Stack 4 | 24 months | $5.99 | $10.99 | $143.76 |
| Hostinger KVM 1 | 24 months | $6.49 | $11.99 | $155.76 |
| netcup VPS 500 G12.5 | 24 months | $6.64 (€5.90) | Same | $159.33 |
| hosting.com Self Managed 4GB | 36 months | $6.49 | $19.00 | $155.76 |
The renewals change the picture. OVHcloud and netcup charge the same after the first term. DreamHost and Hostinger nearly double, and hosting.com's 4 GB plan nearly triples, from $6.49 to $19.00, when its 36-month term ends. On a 36-month term you also pay $233.64 up front.
Contabo's Storage VPS 10 is a special case: 300 GB of SSD is far more disk than any other 4 GB plan, but Contabo lists a 200 Mbit/s port on it, and its base prices are for Germany. Other locations add a monthly fee.
Is 4 GB the right size?
4 GB is enough for a WordPress site with a database and caching, a handful of Docker containers, a small Node or Python app, or a self-hosted tool like n8n or Uptime Kuma. If you're running several sites, a busier database, or a stack of containers, 8 GB gives you room.
The jump costs less than you'd think. Contabo's Cloud VPS 4 has 8 GB and 4 vCPUs for €5.50 a month ($6.19), less than most 4 GB plans in the table. We compared the 8 GB options separately in our 8 GB VPS guide.
