The cheapest VPS with 2 GB of RAM is InterServer's Linux VPS 1 Slice at $3.00 a month, paid monthly, at a price that doesn't rise on renewal. netcup's VPS nano is next at $3.47 (€3.10) with two vCPUs, and Bluehost's VPS NVMe 2 is $4.99.
We checked these prices on 11 October 2026. We track 39 unmanaged Linux plans with exactly 2 GB of RAM across 13 providers, and the same 2 GB costs anywhere from $3.00 to $28.00 a month depending on who sells it.
How we picked these plans
Every plan here has exactly 2 GB of RAM, root access and Linux. Managed servers and Windows plans are out, since both add cost that has nothing to do with the hardware. The price is what one month costs at the shortest term the provider sells; where that term is longer than a month, the table says so.

| 12 | DigitalOcean Basic 2 GB | 1 | 50 GB SSD | 2 TB | $12.00 | Hourly |
Linode's Shared CPU 2 GB and AWS Lightsail's 2 GB plan are also $12.00 a month, both hourly. Lightsail's has 2 vCPUs, 60 GB of SSD and 3 TB of transfer, which makes it the best equipped of the three at that price.
Cheapest overall: InterServer 1 Slice
InterServer sells VPS resources in "slices". One slice is 1 vCPU, 2 GB of RAM, 40 GB of SSD and 2 TB of transfer for $3.00 a month. There is no intro discount to expire: the price we track is the same at renewal, and you pay month to month. Two slices (4 GB, 80 GB) are $6.00.
InterServer's servers are in the United States, so this is a strong pick for a North American audience and a weaker one if your visitors are in Europe or Asia.
Best equipped under $4: netcup VPS nano
netcup's VPS nano G11.5s has 2 vCPUs, 2 GB of RAM and 60 GB of SSD with unmetered traffic for €3.10 a month. It is the only plan under $7 with two vCPUs. The catch is the contract: the shortest term is six months, so you pay about €18.60 at a time. The price does not change at renewal, and the plan is hosted in Germany.
Cheapest with hourly billing: IONOS Cloud Cube XS
If you want to create a server for a few hours and delete it, the first three plans in the table won't do, because they bill by the month or longer. The cheapest 2 GB plan billed by the hour is IONOS's Cloud Basic Cube XS at $5.76 a month, with 60 GB of NVMe, three times the disk of UpCloud's or Scaleway's hourly plans.
Why the big clouds cost twice as much
Vultr charges $10.00 for 2 GB, and DigitalOcean, Linode and Lightsail charge $12.00. You are not getting more hardware than InterServer's $3.00 slice. What you get is hourly billing, many more data center locations, and an ecosystem around the server: managed databases, load balancers, object storage and an API that most deployment tools already support. If you need those, the premium is reasonable. If you need one small server that stays up, it isn't.
Hetzner is the odd one in our data: its two 2 GB cloud plans, CPX12 and CPX11, are $13.44 and $20.16 a month, well above its own 4 GB CX23 at $6.71. With Hetzner, skip 2 GB.
Check the 4 GB price before you buy
Two plans with twice the RAM cost about the same as a mid-table 2 GB plan:
- OVHcloud VPS-1: 2 vCPUs, 4 GB of RAM and 40 GB of NVMe for $5.03 a month (€4.49), paid monthly.
- netcup VPS Lite 1 G12.5s: 2 vCPUs, 4 GB and 80 GB of SSD for $5.51 a month (€4.92) on a 6-month contract.
Unless you are choosing InterServer or netcup's nano for the price, 4 GB for $5 is the better buy. Our 4 GB guide ranks those plans, and the 8 GB guide covers the step after that.
What 2 GB is enough for
2 GB comfortably runs a WordPress site with its database, a small Node.js or Python app, a personal VPN, a Git server or a couple of light Docker containers. It gets tight with several services at once, a busy MySQL or PostgreSQL database, or anything Java-based. If you are close to the limit, add swap space and plan the move to 4 GB.
