The best value for a real workload is OVHcloud's VPS-1: 2 vCPUs, 4 GB of RAM and 40 GB of NVMe for $5.03 (€4.49), at a price that doesn't change on renewal.
We checked these prices on 11 October 2026 at the shortest billing term each provider sells. Euro prices are converted at about $1.12 per euro, and all prices exclude VAT, which EU buyers pay on top.
How we picked these plans
Eight of the 20 providers we track list France as a location for a VPS or cloud server: Scaleway, OVHcloud, Vultr, Linode, AWS Lightsail, IONOS, Hostinger and Cloudways. We ranked their unmanaged Linux plans by what one month costs.
Two of the eight, OVHcloud and Scaleway, are French companies, which is why France has unusually low entry prices. Several familiar names are absent: Hetzner, DigitalOcean, UpCloud, Contabo, netcup, Bluehost and hosting.com have no French location in our data. For those, Germany or the Netherlands is the nearest option.

Cheapest overall: Scaleway STARDUST1-S
Scaleway's Stardust instance is the lowest price for any server in our data: 1 vCPU, 1 GB of RAM and a 10 GB SSD for €0.43 a month. Two things to know before you plan around it. The disk is small, with only a few gigabytes left after the operating system. And Scaleway bills a public IPv4 address separately from the instance, so a server reachable over IPv4 costs more than the headline figure.
For a tiny service, a bot or a monitoring probe, it is hard to beat. For a website, look further down the table.
Best value: OVHcloud VPS-1
OVHcloud's VPS-1 gives you four times the RAM of the plans priced around it: 2 vCPUs, 4 GB and 40 GB of NVMe for €4.49 a month. There is no contract and no renewal increase. On a 12-month term the price drops to €3.81 a month, about $4.27.
In France, as in OVHcloud's other European locations, traffic on these plans is unmetered in our data. VPS-2 (4 vCPUs, 8 GB, 75 GB) is $9.51 (€8.49).
Cheapest 2 GB with hourly billing: IONOS Cube XS
IONOS's Cloud Basic Cube XS has 1 vCPU, 2 GB of RAM and 60 GB of NVMe for $5.76 a month, billed hourly. That is the largest disk in the top ten and the cheapest 2 GB plan in France you can delete after an afternoon. The next size, Cube S, has 2 vCPUs, 4 GB and 120 GB for $10.08.
Scaleway beyond Stardust
Scaleway's regular development instances are the step up. DEV1-S has 2 vCPUs, 2 GB of RAM and 20 GB of SSD for $7.34 (€6.55), and DEV1-M has 3 vCPUs, 4 GB and 40 GB for $16.52 (€14.74). Both bill hourly and are available in France, the Netherlands and Poland. At 4 GB, OVHcloud's VPS-1 costs a third of DEV1-M, so Scaleway makes most sense when you want its hourly billing or its other cloud services next to the server.
The global clouds at $5
Vultr and Linode charge $5.00 a month for 1 GB of RAM and 25 GB of SSD in France, the same as everywhere else, and Lightsail charges $5.00 for 512 MB with 2 vCPUs. At 2 GB, Vultr is $10.00 and Linode and Lightsail are $12.00. They are worth the premium over OVHcloud only if you want the same provider in many countries.
Hostinger in France
Hostinger lists France for its KVM VPS plans. KVM 1 (1 vCPU, 4 GB, 50 GB NVMe) is $9.99 for the first month and renews at $19.49; on a 24-month term it is $6.49 a month, renewing at $11.99. It includes a control panel, which the others don't, but for the same 4 GB OVHcloud is cheaper with no commitment. Our Hostinger alternatives post goes through the options.
Plans we left out
